“I wanted to be a better role model for my kids.” After 20 years of yo-yo dieting (and being a little more overweight each time) I had gastric bypass surgery to get in control, healthy and set a better example for my children, Ryon, 10 and Makenna, 7.
Without surgery it would have been impossible for me to lose and keep off the weight. As much as I wanted it, I mentally just could not do it. That part has still been a challenge, but with the education and on-going counseling offered at the Bariatric Center I’ve already overcome many of those issues.
Just one year later I’m at my goal weight and have two kids who now have the example they need to lead healthy, long, and more productive lives.

I've lost over 90 pounds in seven months. My depression, breathing problems, and back, foot and knee pain are gone and my self-esteem improves continuously. A new and exciting thing for me recently was being able to sit comfortable in the seats at Rupp Arena! Dr. Weiss, Dr. Oldham and the Bariatric Center at Georgetown are truly something special. I'd like to shout to the whole world how great they are and great I feel.

Dr. Weiss did my minimally invasive gastric bypass in August 2003. I recommend Georgetown to anyone considering WLS. He and Dr. Oldham are the minimally invasive specialists and their whole support program is great. So far, I've lost 100 pounds, my blood pressure is normal and I am off the back pain medication. I can exercise now and have so much energy my kids say it is hard for them to keep up with me!

“I wanted the safest surgery possible.” After researching weight loss surgery for three years, I decided on the Bariatric Center at Georgetown because their surgeons, Dr. Derek Weiss and Dr. John Oldham perform 100% minimally invasive surgery, regardless of a person’s size or surgical history.
I’ve lost 197 pounds in 16 months and am no longer taking medication for acid reflux and gout. My knees, ankles and leg muscles do not hurt anymore and my sleep apnea is gone. I’m living a fuller life and can enjoy my kids like never before. We go to the mall, movies, play outside… we just rip and run all the time now.

“The LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Band has been the perfect tool.”I tried for years to lose my extra weight without success. The gastric bypass was more extreme than what I felt I needed, so I chose the LAP-BAND® System. I wanted to be able to eat what I wanted – just less of it! I also liked that the band was adjustable and completely reversible, if I ever needed it removed. The LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Band has been the perfect tool for me. My eating is under control and I’m more than halfway to my goal weight. Weight loss with the band is slower than the bypass, but I’m right on target and set to lose 40-60 more pounds in the next 18 months. If you’re considering weight loss surgery, the Bariatric Center at Georgetown is the place to go. From their doctors and nurses to their patient support system, they have everything you could ever need to succeed in this journey.

“I was afraid I was going to die.” It was after my sleep apnea diagnosis that I decided to have gastric bypass surgery. Being so fat that I could not breathe right even while sleeping was my rock bottom. I looked at several programs and chose Georgetown for two reasons: One, several staff members had undergone this surgery: and who better to help you than someone who has been there, done that? Second they offered 100% laparoscopic surgery, no matter how large your body size. Georgetown’s aftercare program was been a huge blessing for me. It’s truly the Center’s heart and soul. I don’t know where I’d be without the educational classes, emotional support and all their encouragement they’ve shown me along the way. I’m thankful every single day that I chose them. They are caregivers for a lifetime and that kind of commitment is as beautiful as I feel these days.

“I could have chosen any surgeon.” As a self-paying patient, I had the option to choose any surgeon I wanted. After checking out all the surgeons in the region, I chose Dr. Weiss and Dr. Oldham because of their training and impeccable statistics. The fact that they only do minimally invasive surgery was a huge point to me, as well. I did not want “open” surgery! Georgetown also had the pre-op and aftercare support program I was looking for and I really liked that three of their Center’s nurses were weight loss surgery patients too. I reached my goal weight in just 10 months and my BMI (body mass index) went from 40 to 22. I’m healthier, full of energy and feel absolutely terrific all the way around. I would choose this surgery, Dr. Weiss and Dr. Oldham, and the Bariatric Center at Georgetown again tomorrow!
